The Fine Print

Welcome to focalcomics.com. By using this site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, that's okay — but please don't use the site.
Focal Comics is an independent, creator-first, mission-driven project. We monetize for one reason: to support, employ, and promote artists and creatives, and to replace AI with real creators in every part of the work where we can. Our goal is to give creatives a platform — without the need for big studios or millionaire backing.
We are actively working to become a registered non-profit. Until that status is formalised, when we describe ourselves as non-profit, not-for-profit, mission-driven, or creator-first, we are describing our mission and how we operate — where our money goes, back into people and their work — not a current legal or tax status. Focal Comics is not yet a registered charity, we do not offer tax-deductible donations, and nothing here should be read as a promise of specific financial results or of charitable or tax-exempt status. Support given through memberships, and through any future contributions, helps fund this mission; it is a contribution toward our work, not a charitable donation.
This website is intended for a general audience, and browsing it is open to everyone. Some of our comics and character art contain nudity, drawn as art rather than as sexual content — this site does not host sexually explicit material. Our explicit and NSFW work is published not here, but on third-party platforms we link to, such as DeviantArt. That content is age-restricted on those platforms, and you must meet their age and eligibility requirements (typically eighteen (18) or older) to view it there. If you are not old enough to view mature content where you live, do not follow those links.
The site is open to a general audience, but some things carry age requirements. You must be at least the age of majority where you live to make a purchase, hold a paid membership, or enter into a written agreement with us. The site is not directed to young children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Any sexually explicit content is published off-site on age-restricted platforms (18+) and is intended for adults only. Nudity that appears on this site is non-sexual and carries no age requirement of its own.
All characters, events, and settings in Focal Comics are entirely fictional. Any character depicted in mature or sexual situations — on this site or on the platforms we link to — is a fictional adult, eighteen (18) years of age or older, regardless of appearance, art style, height, or any stated or implied trait. Focal Comics does not create, host, or condone any sexual depiction of minors, and never will.
Our content does not portray real people. Any resemblance between our characters and actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Where AI is used for placeholder art, it is trained only on our own original material and is not used to reproduce the likeness of any real individual.
Some of our comics and character art include nudity. It is drawn as art — a figure, a moment in a story, a body treated the way any other part of a drawing is treated — and it is not sexual content. Nothing published on this site depicts sexual activity, and this site does not host sexually explicit material. Where a page or an image contains nudity, we would rather say so plainly than have anyone find out by surprise.
Individual comics carry their own content ratings, and where a title needs a stronger rating than the site as a whole, that rating sits on the title. Anything more explicit than what is described here is published off-site, on age-restricted platforms.
This site does not host sexually explicit content. Where we link to mature or adult work on other platforms, you follow those links voluntarily and at your own discretion. You are responsible for meeting the age and eligibility rules of the platform you visit and for knowing what is lawful where you live. Once you leave this site, that platform's terms and protections — not ours — govern what you see. If mature content is not legal where you are, do not follow those links.
Focal Comics is bold, unfiltered, and made for grown adults. Some of it is violent. Some of it is sexual. Some of it will offend someone — that is the nature of art without agenda, and we make no apologies for it. If our content isn't your thing, no hard feelings and no offense intended: this simply isn't the place for you, and you're free to close the tab. By continuing, you accept the work on its own terms and agree not to hold us responsible for it being exactly what it says it is.
The comics, characters, artwork, logos, and writing on this site belong to Focal Comics, F.C. Marrow, and their respective creators. You're welcome to enjoy it and share links to it. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, or repackage it as your own without written permission.
Focal Comics is written by published authors and creators — every story here is made by hand. The characters and worlds were designed by F.C. Marrow, most of them between 2007 and 2015, well before AI.
For the art, where we don't yet have an artist, we use AI as a placeholder. It's a stand-in that holds the space and shows what a page is meant to be — an open seat waiting for the right person to sit down. Any artist can look at it, say "I've got this," and take over; as we bring artists on, their work replaces the placeholders.
When AI is used, it's kept in-house: every image is generated and trained locally, only on our own hand-drawn and created material. Nothing from outside our own work goes into it.
Every piece of AI imagery on this site exists to be replaced by a paid artist. It is a seat-warmer, nothing more — a placeholder held open for the artists and writers we intend to hire to flesh out this universe. Our aim is to platform creatives and give as many hardworking, deserving people as possible a springboard into their creative careers. Any and all AI imagery here has been made to be replaced by paid artists.
The art is a placeholder. The stories are the point.
Where else AI is used. We want to be fully transparent about our AI use. Outside of art placeholders, it is limited to two things: the programming of this website, and the structure of our courses — organising lessons and building the testing around them. The programming of this website is done by MarrowMyth on their Materia creative technology platform, which includes developmental AI coding in the programming. It is not used to write the courses. The teaching itself is hand-written by the course creator, in their own words.
Where it is never used. No creative work here is authored by AI. Not a story, not a script, not a comic, and not a character or their background. Those are hand-written and human-created, and we will not change that. Even the AI art placeholders are human-designed — the concept, the character and the composition are ours, presented through ethically trained AI, and made to be replaced by a paid artist.
Why we draw the line there. Our use of AI is restricted to structural and programming work so that our team and our collaborators stay as creatively active as possible, without carrying the menial tasks that come with building a community structure of this size and potential. We treat AI as a time-saving measure, not a cost-saving one — the savings are hours, not wages, and those hours go back into participating in, involving, and growing this community and our non-profit foundation with human hands and human experience.
Fan art and fan fiction are made by fans, on their own and out of love for the work — separate from the paid or commissioned contributions covered below. When you share a fan submission with us:
This covers work created for Focal Comics — commissions, covers, series art, and other official contributions. It is separate from fan art and fan fiction.
Focal Comics decides what appears on our site and channels. We may decline to publish, display, host, share, promote, support, or continue to feature any submission, contribution, artwork, writing, profile, recommendation, or other material sent to us — in whole or in part, at any time, at our sole discretion, and without being required to give a reason.
The member profiles and spotlights on Focal Comics — names, photos, bios, links, and listed works — are built from information each member personally sends us and authorises us to publish.
We love enthusiasm, but please don’t send us confidential or proprietary ideas expecting secrecy or payment. Any idea, pitch, concept, character, storyline, suggestion, or feedback you send us through any channel is treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. By sending it, you give Focal Comics a free, perpetual, worldwide, unrestricted right to use it in any way — without credit, compensation, or obligation — and you agree we owe you nothing for it. We create a great deal of our own material and may already be developing something similar or identical; sending us an idea gives you no claim over anything we make. This does not apply to work covered by a signed contributor agreement, which is governed by that agreement.
No matter how you take part — as a paid or official contributor, or as a fan sharing fan art or fan fiction — the Focal Comics characters, worlds, names, and stories are and always remain the property of Focal Comics. No submission, contribution, payment, or agreement ever transfers ownership of our characters or stories to anyone else. A signed agreement may determine who owns a specific commissioned piece of work, but never our underlying characters, worlds, or stories.
The material on this website is intended for a general audience. Our mature and adult work is published separately, on the third-party platforms we link to. All of our content is presented within the bounds of applicable law.
When using the site, you agree not to:
We run community spaces, including a Discord server with tier-based roles. Taking part in them is a privilege, not a right. When you do, you agree to follow our community rules and the host platform’s own terms. We may moderate, mute, remove, or ban anyone whose conduct harms the community — at our discretion — and we may change, restrict, or close a community space at any time. We don’t control third-party platforms and aren’t responsible for their outages, moderation decisions, or the way they handle your data.
We link to other platforms, including those that host our mature content (such as DeviantArt) and social or community sites. We don't control those platforms and aren't responsible for their content, their policies, or the way they handle age-gating or your data. Your use of them is governed by their terms, not ours.
When you place an order through our store, you are making an offer to buy. We may accept or decline any order — for example, if an item is unavailable or a price is listed in error — and if we can't fulfill an order you've already paid for, we'll refund it. Prices and availability can change at any time. Product images and descriptions are as accurate as we can manage, but aren't guaranteed to be exact; colors, sizing, and print can vary from what you see on screen.
Payments are processed by PayPal. We do not see or store your full card or bank details. By paying, you agree to PayPal's terms and confirm you're authorized to use the payment method. You are responsible for any applicable sales tax, and for any import duties or customs fees on international orders.
Our physical products are made to order and shipped by our print partner, Printful. Production and delivery times are estimates, not guarantees, and vary by product and destination. Risk of loss passes to you once an item is handed to the carrier. We aren't responsible for carrier delays or for customs handling on international shipments.
Because our products are printed on demand specifically for you, we don't accept returns for buyer's remorse or for the wrong size or option being chosen at checkout. If your item arrives damaged, defective, or is not what you ordered, email hello@focalcomics.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a photo, and we'll make it right — a replacement or a refund. Eligible defect and misprint claims are fulfilled through our print partner, and approved refunds are issued to your original payment method. If you paid through PayPal, PayPal's Buyer Protection may also apply.
Once an order is in production it usually can't be changed or cancelled. If you spot a mistake — such as a wrong shipping address — contact us as quickly as possible and we'll help if the order hasn't gone to print yet.
Focal Comics offers optional paid memberships (“Focal Point,” comprising the Orbital, Galactic, Universal and Multiversal tiers) through Patreon. Membership is one of the main ways you help fund our mission — supporting, employing, and promoting artists and creatives — and in return you receive the perks listed for your tier. It is a paid membership for those benefits, not a charitable donation (see Our Mission & Not-for-Profit Stance above). Billing, renewals, and cancellations are handled by Patreon under its own terms. You can cancel at any time through your Patreon account, and payment questions and any refunds are subject to Patreon's policies. You log in to member areas using Patreon's secure sign-in, and you're responsible for keeping your Patreon account and access secure.
Membership unlocks access to member-only areas, community spaces (including tier-based Discord roles), and the perks listed for your tier. Some perks are inherently limited or rotational — for example weekly spotlights, newsletter, or social features, collaboration matchmaking, mentorship, and podcast appearances. Where a tier offers "priority" or "guaranteed" placement, that means priority within a reasonable rotation and schedule set at our discretion; it is not a promise of a specific date, frequency, or outcome. Perks are provided on a reasonable-effort basis and depend on your membership staying active.
Any promotional page, feature, or done-for-you work we create for you as part of a tier is provided while your membership is active and may be unpublished or removed once it ends. You keep ownership of your own original work; hosting or promoting it does not transfer it to us, and the license in "Fan Art & Fan Fiction" above applies to anything you submit.
We may change membership tiers, pricing, perks, or how they're delivered going forward; where changes affect an existing paid tier, we'll communicate them through Patreon. Access and roles depend on an active, paid membership in good standing — if your membership ends, lapses, or is found to breach these Terms or our community rules, related access and roles may be removed. Membership does not grant any ownership of Focal Comics' characters, worlds, or other intellectual property.
Some comics on this site are free to everybody. Others sit behind a membership, and any paying tier — Orbital included — opens them.
From time to time we may run giveaways, promotions, spotlights, or member perks — for example, monthly promotional features for members. Unless we state otherwise for a specific promotion: eligibility and entry rules are set at our discretion; where the law requires it, no purchase or payment is necessary to enter and a purchase will not improve your chances; promotions are void where prohibited; and we may change, pause, or cancel any promotion at any time. Our promotions are run by Focal Comics and are not sponsored by, endorsed by, or associated with any platform we use (such as Patreon, Discord, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube).
We respect intellectual property and expect the same. If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, email hello@focalcomics.com with: a description of the work you say is infringed; the location (URL) of the material on our site; your contact information; and a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized and that your notice is accurate. We review valid notices and remove or disable material where appropriate.
The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied — including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, and we may add, change, or remove content and features at any time.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Focal Comics, F.C. Marrow, and their creators and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the site or its content. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greatest extent the law allows.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Focal Comics, F.C. Marrow, and their creators and contributors from any claims, demands, damages, liabilities, or costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of content you submit, your use of the site or the content you reach through links from it, your violation of any law or the rights of a third party, or your breach of these Terms.
We may suspend or restrict access to the site, or remove content, at our discretion — for example, to protect the site, comply with the law, or address a breach of these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as content licenses, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) continue to apply after any termination.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Thailand, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes relating to these Terms or the site will be handled in the courts of Thailand.
Your use of the site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and how we handle it.
If we don't enforce a part of these Terms right away, that isn't a waiver — we can still enforce it later.
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to another party (for example, if the project changes hands). You may not transfer yours without our consent.
We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages, third-party service failures, or other disruptions.
We may update these Terms as the project grows or as the law changes. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Changes take effect when posted, and by continuing to use the site after that you accept the updated Terms. If you don’t agree with a change, please stop using the site.
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the entire agreement between you and Focal Comics regarding your use of the site.
We may update these Terms. When we do, we'll change the date above. Continuing to use the site means you accept the current Terms.
