The Fine Print

Focal Comics ("Focal," "we," "us") runs focalcomics.com. We like art, not surveillance. This policy explains what little we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
When you use our contact form, you give us your name, email address, subject, and message — nothing more than what you type. If you don’t contact us, we don’t collect that.
If you ask to be told when there is something to read, we collect your email address and the page you signed up from — nothing else. We use it for that one purpose and no other, and you can have it removed at any time by emailing us.
If you make a purchase, we collect the information needed to process and fulfill your order — such as your name, shipping address, email address, and order details. Payment is handled by PayPal; we never see or store your full card or bank details.
Like most websites, our host automatically records basic technical data (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) to keep the site running and secure. We don’t use this to build a profile of you.
We also measure how the site is used, through Vercel Web Analytics. It is cookieless and does not follow you between sites: it records page views, the referring site, and coarse details like country and device type. It does not store your IP address and there is no cross-site identifier, so we can see that a page was read without being able to see who read it.
If you take part as a collaborator, member, or contributor — or submit fan art, fan fiction, or other work — you may send us details to feature publicly, such as your name or handle, photo or artwork, bio, links, and credits. This information is published on our site and channels (for example, the Member’s Roster and Spotlight pages) at your request and with your permission, and it becomes publicly visible. Please only send what you’re comfortable making public, and don’t include sensitive personal information you don’t want shown. You can ask us to update or remove your published details at any time and we’ll do so promptly, though we can’t recall copies others may have already saved or shared.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising.
Our contact form is delivered by a third-party form service that forwards your message to our inbox at hello@focalcomics.com. Your message passes through that service purely to reach us. The same service delivers dispatch signups to the same inbox — a signup is an email in our inbox, not an entry in a marketing database, and we do not currently use bulk-mail software at all. If that changes we will say so here first. The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server data on our behalf.
Payments are processed by PayPal, which handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; we receive only limited confirmation and order information, never your full card or bank data. Physical products are produced and shipped by our print partner, Printful, so we share the name, shipping address, and order details needed to make and deliver your order. Each of these providers processes your information under its own terms and privacy policy.
Focal Comics membership ("Focal Point") is offered through Patreon. When you log in, we use Patreon's secure sign-in ("Log in with Patreon"). We never see your Patreon password, and billing — including your card or bank details — is handled entirely by Patreon under its own terms and privacy policy.
When you sign in with Patreon, we receive a limited set of information from your Patreon account: your name, your Patreon user ID, and which Focal Comics membership tier you're currently entitled to (Orbital, Galactic, Universal or Multiversal). We use this only to confirm your membership and unlock the member-only areas, content, and Discord roles that go with your tier. We do not receive or store your payment details.
To keep you signed in, we store one small, secure, browser-only session cookie. It holds a signed token identifying your session and tier — nothing more — and is used strictly to keep you logged in and to gate member content, never for tracking or advertising. If you cancel your membership or it lapses, your access to member-only areas and roles is removed; you can end your membership at any time through Patreon.
Focal Comics operates from Thailand, but the services we rely on — our website host, contact-form provider, payment and membership processors (PayPal and Patreon), and print and fulfillment partner (Printful) — may store or process data on servers outside Thailand, including in the United States and the European Union. By using the site, contacting us, or placing an order, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations, which may have different data-protection rules than your own.
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold, but no website or transmission over the internet is ever completely secure. We can't guarantee absolute security, and you share information with us at your own risk.
We keep this simple: Focal doesn’t use tracking or advertising cookies, and our analytics sets no cookie of any kind. If you log in as a member, we store one secure, browser-only session cookie to keep you signed in and unlock member content — that's a functional cookie, not a tracking one. Any other cookies present are strictly for the site to function.
Separately from cookies, the site stores a few small things in your own browser — in local storage and session storage. These never leave your device, are not sent to us, and are not readable by anyone else. They exist so the site does not ask you the same thing twice:
Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it. The only consequence is that the site forgets which notices you dismissed and where you were up to.
We keep contact messages only as long as needed to handle your inquiry. We keep dispatch signups until you ask to come off, or until the list is retired. We keep order and transaction records for as long as required for accounting, tax, and legal purposes. You can ask us to delete information we're not required to keep.
Email hello@focalcomics.com to ask what we hold, correct it, or have it deleted — including coming off the dispatch list. We'll take care of it, and we won’t ask why.
Focal Comics operates from Thailand, and we handle personal data in line with Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Where the PDPA applies, you have the right to:
We rely on your consent and our legitimate interest in operating the site as the basis for the limited processing described above. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@focalcomics.com and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
We are based in Thailand, but people read this site and order from it all over the world, and some of the services we rely on process data inside the EU and the United States. If you are covered by the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, or a comparable law where you live, we will honour the equivalent rights — access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent — through the same route and on the same terms as the rights listed above. Email hello@focalcomics.com and say which right you want to use. We are not going to make you prove which country you are in before we help you.
Where a law in your region gives you a right we have not listed, ask for it anyway. The answer is far more likely to be yes than no.
The data controller for this site is Focal Comics, operating from Thailand, reachable at hello@focalcomics.com. That address reaches a person — Liu, who answers every email personally — and not a ticketing queue. There is no separate data-protection officer, because there is no layer of company between you and the people who run this.
This website is intended for a general audience and does not host sexually explicit content. Some of our comics and character art include nudity, drawn as art rather than as sexual content. Our explicit work lives on third-party platforms we link to, where it is age-restricted under those platforms' own rules. This site is not directed to children.
We link out to places like DeviantArt, Discord, and social platforms. Once you leave focalcomics.com, their privacy practices — not ours — apply.
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. Continued use of the site means you're good with the current version.
