Every book on this site is read in software we wrote for it. Not a plugin, not a licensed viewer, not a PDF in a frame — a proprietary reader, built on Materia, for these pages specifically.
Every beat is a rectangle on the page, eased into the next. The first beat of any page is the whole page, so you always see the composition before it pulls you through it.
The page is painted to a canvas. Nothing to drag out of the document, no source sitting in the inspector, and the focus falloff needs the pixels anyway.
Where you stopped and every option you chose, per issue, in your own browser. None of it ever reaches us.
Focus, the camera itself, two pages side by side, commentary, power chrome, a mirror that runs the whole book backwards. All of it switches off. The book comes first.
